Guest Lecture on ‘Career Guidance for Future Teachers: Nitty Gritty of Job Interviews’ (9th March 2023)

A Guest Lecture on ‘Career Guidance for Future Teachers: Nitty Gritty of Job Interviews’ was organized by Al-Barkaat Institute of Education on 9th March 2023 under Mentoring and Counseling Cell.. Mr. Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (General), Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh was the eminent Resource Person. The aim of the lecture was to provide guidance to the future teachers on how to prepare for job interviews and succeed in the highly competitive job market.
The lecture was started by highlighting the importance of choosing a right career in life. He first stated the difference between career and job. Then he highlighted the importance of job interviews in the recruitment process. He pointed out that job interviews are a critical part of the hiring process, and success in interviews often determines whether a candidate will be offered the job. He emphasized that the key to success in job interviews is preparation and practice.
He went on to explain the nitty-gritty of job interviews, highlighting the common questions that are asked during interviews and the best ways to answer them. He explained that interviewers usually ask questions about the candidate’s experience, skills, and knowledge of the subject. He also pointed out that interviewers often ask behavioral questions to assess the candidate’s personality and suitability for the job.
He then provided tips on how to prepare for job interviews like content knowledge of the subject for which they are applying, self introspection in order to know their strength and area of improvement, positive personality i.e. looking the situation in a positive way, required technical skills, self acceptance of what they are, goal clarification, passion for the profession, hard work etc. He also advised the future teachers to research the school or institution they are applying to, practice answering common questions, and prepare a list of questions to ask the interviewer. Moreover, he suggested that the candidates dress appropriately, arrive on time, and be confident and enthusiastic during the interview.
The lecture was well-received by the audience, and many participants expressed their gratitude for the practical advice provided by the guest speaker. Overall, the lecture was a great success and will undoubtedly help the future teachers in their career development.
